Boston Way of the Cross 2011

My friend Michael Joens and his daughter, my favorite eight-year-old, were among those who walked the Way of the Cross yesterday in Boston. A gifted photographer, whose public Web site is here, Michael took some pictures that tell the story as well as any words. With his permission I am sharing a few here.

We began near the Park Street T Stop on Tremont Street, before a statue that seemed to pray with us.

At the first Station, a statue commemorating the founding of Boston, Father Stefano Colombo read from the Gospel and reflected on the reading, and Matt Leblanc (left) read complementary pieces, while members of the Boston CL chorus (right, rear) waited to sing.

The Cross led us across the bridge in the Boston Public Garden . . .

. . . and into Park Square, as everywhere.

Here Gabriele Vanoni encouraged us to sing along with the Boston CL Chorus.

Then it was on to the South End.

And a meeting with Cardinal Seán O’Malley in the chapel at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Many thanks to His Eminence for his generous presence among us—and again to Michael Joens for these images. Be sure to take a look at the other pictures here.
