Song of the Day: “Downtown”

Katie and I don’t get downtown enough. But a few years back we drove into Boston for a concert at the House of Blues, thanks to our friends Paul and Cathy, who invited us. We stepped up to the box office and asked for tickets to see The Saw Doctors. Sold out! I was bummed. I turned away from the window muttering and found myself facing two men, one with a camera. The camera guy said to me and Katie, Hey can you take our picture?

I noticed that there was a bus parked in front of the House of Blues. Katie agreed to take the picture while I continued muttering: “Damn! Can’t get tickets. You guys know any way of getting tickets to the show tonight?” (Ask and it shall be opened unto you.)

The guy without the camera—I noticed now that he was older, and golly if he didn’t have an Irish accent—asked, “How many you need?”

Four, I said. Paul and Cathy had theirs. “Who are you?” I asked, glancing again at what looked like a tour bus. “The road manager?”

“No,” he said, “I’m the lead singer.” It was Davy Carton, lead singer of The Saw Doctors, second most popular band in Ireland after U2.

Now, of course, Katie had to have her picture taken with him, and the result is at the top of this post.

Smiling this morning, and thinking by association of The Saw Doctors, who always make me smile, I went on YouTube and found this video, which made me smile some more.
